The purpose of education in Japan is defined as “the full development ofpersonality”. In the background, there is the influence of Kant’s philosophy.However, Japanese today who have experienced nihilism need to consider “thefull development of personality” from the standpoint of the idea after nihilism. Itis the existential philosophy that is the key to overcome nihilism, and amongmany existential philosophers, we must pay attention to Berdyaev, who is alsopersonalist. In fact, there are several studies about Berdyaev’s personalism from theperspective on the theory of human formation. In these studies, Berdyaev’s basicideas, “the Ego(existence)”, “personality” and “personality development”, areconsidered adequately, but these studies cannot make the relationship betweenthem clear. So this article shows the relationship between them, comparing toHerder’s concepts of “self”, “humanity”, and “humanity formation”., application/pdf}, pages = {1--21}, title = {A Consideration of Berdyaev’s Theory of Personality\nDevelopment\n-Comparing to the Idea of Humanity Formation by Herder-}, volume = {3}, year = {2021} }
