The presentstudy aimed to clarify the current situation of this custom through the use of a questionnaire survey forthe junior high school students, direct observation of how people spend the end of the year and NewYear’s Day, and interviews of the female farmers who know the local food culture well. The result of questionnaire of junior high school students (N=104), showed that 56 students do not eatrice cakes on the New Year’s Day. Among those 56, 49 students responded that they eat rice cakes onother days. The observation and interviews clarified that people avoid breaking this custom, particularlymany homes with healthy elderly people try to protect the custom. Even if the custom not to eat ricecakes on New Year’s Day is kept within the household, some junior high school students didn’t know thereason for this custom. Thus, in order to hand down the local food culture to the next generation, it issuggested that there is a need to educate the meaning and significance of the custom to young people byfamilies, schools and the community., application/pdf}, pages = {1--14}, title = {長野県東筑摩郡麻績村と筑北村の行事食と郷土食}, volume = {72}, year = {2018} }
