This diol 5 was predominantly given after working up under acidic media, while under the alkaline condition two diols, trans and cis p-menth-4(8)-en-1, 3-diol (3 and 4) were obtained. The structure of compound 5 has been confirmed to be p-menth-3-en-1, 8-diol by chemical and spectrometric methods.
